WHY INVEST IN CRYPTOCURRENCY?

Cryptocurrency Investment

Humans often struggle with change ― though change is happening faster and faster these days.It takes us longer to adapt to substantial change and most of the time we don’t even know what the changes are or how it’s going to affect us. I think this is massively different with cryptocurrency and crypto loans.  The key change that cryptocurrencies deliver is in fact a simple and appealing change ― namely, take out the middle man.

The middleman cryptocurrency takes out is governments – they don’t issue the currency. The middleman cryptocurrency loans take out is the banks. Cryptocurrencies allow us to take control of our own payment and borrowing systems with the price being set by supply and demand.

The Internet was designed in 1974: it opened in the 1980s. Even so, it was not until 1989 when the WORLD WIDE WEB, invented by Tim Berners-Lee, began to change the way governments, business and people do ― pretty much everything. And now that change is coming through cryptocurrency and Bitcoin loans.

The first paper money introduced by Marco Polo travelled from China to Europe in 1290AD but it didn’t really catch on until 1616AD, some 371 years later.

Cryptocurrencies have had a slow take up ― but not that slow! The first Bitcoins were dispatched over 10 years ago ― 10,000 bitcoin bought you a pizza. Today, 1 bitcoin buys you a good second hand car. Or you could get a crypto car loan in US dollars using your Bitcoin as security for the loan.

When mobile phones launched would you have thought they’d largely replace your computer, your street directory, your watch . . . yet, these days, it’s worse to lose your mobile phone than your wallet.

From humble beginnings, the crypto space has moved faster than most life-changing products and has continued to speedup. For example:

  • nearly 32 million Blockchain wallet users at the end of December 2018;
  • the Bitcoin market capitalization increased from approximately 40 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter of 2012 to approximately 237.62 billion U.S. dollars in the fourth quarter of 2017. It has since decreased, amounting to 66.18 billion U.S. dollars in the fourth quarter of 2018;
  • the total cryptocurrency market capitalization at the moment is approx. $250 billion;
  • you can use crypto coins as security for loans in real money ― even US dollars.

If you can’t picture what that means for the next 2 to 5 years let me paint you a picture:

  • every ATM and payment gateway we use in shops, online or banks will be Crypto supportive;
  • governments will start to support crypto to make sure they do not lose control of us mere mortals ― they did it with radio, the internet and outer space;
  • governments will issue their own government-supported national-currency-backed cryptocurrency; and
  • you will be able to buy cars and houses and to pay school fees with crypto.

In other words, cash will become mostly irrelevant and be surpassed by technology-based currency.

You don’t need to own crypto to benefit but it might help to understand it.

The Influence of Crypto Lending

  The practice of lending money has been and continues to be one of the driving forces behind the modern economy. Since debt first became a facilitator for trading, it has been considered a significant component in commerce and investment.   With all this clout, it didn’t take long for the practice to make its way into the crypto market. Since around 2010, the potential establishment of “bitcoin banks ” has become a popular topic among numerous forums. Not too long after, people started offering P2P lending services to extract returns on their holdings. This particular space has since evolved to include a wide variety of businesses.   Crypto lending and borrowing have numerous advantages, and these advantages could attract new users. Moreover, it can help expand the ecosystem as a whole.   Attracting banks   One notable change in the crypto sector is that traditional banks may start taking an interest in the system. Rates on fiat loans are at historically low le...

Stablecoins vs Elastic Supply Coins – Which are Better for Loans?

  The crypto industry is immensely volatile. This is due to both its infancy, and its influx of retail investors. While volatility can be favorable to some (such as day-traders), most people find it uncomfortable and worrisome. As a means of curbing this, developers created coins and tokens that are tied to certain values, allowing for steadiness and peace of mind. There are two main categories of coins that achieve this: stablecoins and elastic supply coins.   Both are designed to be significantly more predictable, and for this reason, they make for fantastic forms of collateral when getting crypto-backed loans. On the surface, they can even seem very similar to each other, but the technology and economic principles behind them are wildly different. So which is the better collateral: stablecoins, or elastic supply coins?   Stablecoins use reserves   Stablecoins, such as Tether, TrueUSD , and Dai, keep their assets at consistent prices by using reserves of fiat mone...

WHAT IS A LOAN WRITE-OFF?

 In the financial industry, be it taxes, investments , or loans, a term that is periodically tossed around is “write-off.” We often hear this in the context of taxes (ex. “You will even get a tax write-off!”), but some are not familiar with what it actually means. What does it mean?  When an investment, like a loan, becomes delinquent (i.e. payments are late) or in default and is deemed uncollectible, the lender has a choice to make concerning the outstanding investment amount. They can either charge it as an expense or a loss. It is an accounting action that diminishes an asset’s value while simultaneously debiting a liabilities account. It is commonly used by businesses looking to account for unpaid receivables, unpaid loan obligations, or losses on stored inventory. Generally speaking, it can be seen as something to help decrease an annual tax bill.  The core idea is to use the money in conducting business, which was initially put aside at the time of lending the mon...
